2020 Macbeth – An Experiment In The Future

The GretagMacBeth chart is part of a long and great history, bringing a standard for comparing an input with an output. It is now 'owned' by the Colour specialist company x-rite.

One situation with the chart is that it is made for the RGB Color Space with a D55 White Point. That being the case, colors are what they are, and no more. Primary Colors are hardly close and shades of colors seem odd.

Passcode: QA_b4_QC

For the sake of learning and discussion of the science, the attached file here is a study of colors – more corresponding to the descriptions of the colors than the ones chosen to represent them in the smaller color space.

This download document is a 16-bit 2020, 4096 x 2160  TIFF file. It was made with Affinity Designer, the file of which is included in the zip.

2020 Color Space and D65 white point

Color Chart based on the classic MacBeth, showing the original hex values though not adjusting for the different space (RGB) and white point (D55).

The attempts were to find colors for the top 2 rows using 25% increments of RGB as shown (except'g skin, which is; ‘qui sait?’).

The 3rd row colors are just 65535 bits*1 appropriately.

The 4th row colors are just 65535 bits*% appropriately.

Not for profit. Merely an educational experiment.
